AOE Plumbing

A local plumber for the Cities of York and Ripon

Below is a list of typical plumbing jobs I have fixed. If you are not sure if I can help you, please just contact me.

I qualified in 2003 from York College with a City & Guilds Level 2 in domestic plumbing studies, and in 2004 passed the WRAS Water Regulations.

Because I specialise in small jobs, I try to fix your plumbing problems in one day, and to start at a time that is convenient to you. If for example, you have to drop the children off at school first, then I will start when you return from the school run.

Renewable Technologies

Using my skills, I have undertaken several renewable technologies on my own home.

Solar Thermal Hot Water

In 2006, I installed a Solar Thermal System in my home. This system uses the Sun’s energy to heat our hot water. The system was purchased from Navitron for a price of £1250.00 and comprises of a twin coil hot water cylinder, manifold and 20 tubes and a RESOL solar controller.

The system is very simple. The 20 black tubes sitting on my South-facing roof, warms water in the manifold, which is then pumped to the hot water cylinder in our airing cupboard. Two sensors, one in the manifold and the other in the hot water cylinder, allow the solar controller to monitor and control the efficient collection of the Sun’s energy. When there is not enough Sunlight to warm the water, our gas boiler can be used to heat the water.

My gas bill for the summer quarter of 2009 was £5.18

Rainwater Flushing Toilet

To reduce the amount of drinking water wasted flushing my toilet, I have developed my own Rainwater harvesting system. The essence of this very simple system, is to collect rainwater from my roof and divert it to a dedicated loft tank, and used whenever a toilet is flushed.

The recycled water butts were bought from D & V Fuels, and the electronics used to monitor the loft tank and power the lift pump were purchased from REUK .

A Solar Electric System

When a 12-Volt leisure battery is not used for a long period, it will slowly discharge and reach a point were it destroys its self. To prevent this happening it is essential during these inactive periods a trickle charge is provided to maintain maximum charge. A mains powered charger can be used, but a Photovoltaic Panel and suitable charger can provide exactly the same service, but free.

I installed such a system on my caravan and in addition to the trickle charge benefits when in storage, it also enables me to use sites that have no mains electric hook-ups.
